Tiananmen (Gate of Heavenly Peace) Square has a rich and culturally significant history in China. 

Chairman Mao proclaimed the birth of the People's Republic of China in this location on 1st October 1949.

The square contains many attactions including Monument to the People's Heroes, The Great Hall of the People, The National Museum of China and the final resting place of Chairman Mao. 

How to get there:
 

Underground:

• Take Underground Line 1 to Tiananmen Dong or Tiananmen Xi Station.

Opening Times:

For Tiananmen Tower only:

• March-October: 8:30am to 5:00pm (ticket sales ends at 4:30pm)

• November- February: 08:30 to 16:30 (ticket sales ends at 16:00)

For Memorial Hall of Chairman Mao only:

• Tuesday to Sunday: 08:00am to 12:00pm all year round.

Tiananmen Square is open all day.

Admission Cost:

• Access to the Square is free while admission to Tiananmen Tower is 15CNY
